CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 16th Translation Atelier
The Translation Academy of the Literature Translation Institute of Korea invites applications for its 16th Translation Atelier.
We warmly encourage all interested and eligible individuals to apply.
☐ Overview
ㅇ Languages Offered: English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese
ㅇ Capacity: Approximately 4 participants per language group
ㅇ Eligibility: Translation Academy graduates, literary translators
(No restrictions on nationality, educational background, age, or place of residence)
Translation Academy Graduates | Those who have completed at least one course at the Translation Academy, including the Regular Course or Night Course (formerly Special Course). |
Literary Translators | Recipients of grants for translation or publication projects, or winners of domestic or international translation awards. * Only for Korean→Foregine Language Translator |
Content | - Individual translation projects (Korean → target language) based on selected works - Fortnightly seminars with peer reviews and feedback from instructors |
Duration | 1-year course (14 weeks) |
Spring Term | March 31 – July 2025 (7 weeks) |
Autumn Term | August 25 – December 2025 (7 weeks) |
Schedule | Fortnightly 3-hour seminars on weekdays * Schedules vary by language group. |
Format | Online via Zoom * 1–2 in-person sessions per term (online attendance available for those living outside Seoul) |

☐ Selection Process and Evaluation Criteria
Selection Process | Evaluation Criteria |
Document screening | The following will be evaluated based on the applicant's application form and self-introduction letter - Interest and ability in translation (50 points) -Interest and literacy in Korean literature and/or cultural content (50 points) |
Written test | Korean language proficiency and literary knowledge required to interpret the provided text and translation ability into the target language will be evaluated against the following standards - Understanding of work (30 points) - Faithfulness to original (30 points) - Translation completeness (40 points) |
Interview | Korean language proficiency and literary knowledge required to interpret the provided text and translation ability into the target language will be evaluated against the following standards -Evaluation of language skills required for translation (30 points) -Evaluation of the overall understanding, interest, and cultural literacy of the literature and cultural content of Korea and the target language group (40 points) -Evaluation of the willingness and intent to consistently participate in the program (30 points) |

☐ Important Notes
- Applicants cannot apply for the Night Course at the same time.
- Individuals currently enrolled in other Translation Academy courses are not eligible to apply.
- Changes to applications or additional documents will not be accepted after the deadline.
